Three Must-have WordPress Plugins to Make Your Blog Site Social Media Friendly

A couple of weeks ago, one of my friends shared her blog post with me. I was very interested in the post and wanted to share it with my Facebook friends and Twitter followers. However, there was no social media button or bookmarks for me to share. What a pity!

If you have your own WordPress blog, you want your audience to be able to share it easily with their social media network. Because the more people share it, the more backlinks you will have. So it is very important to have a social media friendly blog site. I am going to show you three must-have powerful WordPress plugins that will make your blog site social media friendly.

  1. Facebook Like Button – With this little Facebook Like Button, your reader can voluntarily share your posts on Facebook and bring you more traffic and readers on your site. Recently, Facebook has updated its Like button to replace the Share Button. The Like Button used to post a link to the story that would appear in the recent activity. Now, when you click on the “Like” button, a full story with a headline, blurb and thumbnail will be posted to your profile wall. You can also write a comment on the story link. So you don’t need to have Facebook Share Button anymore.
  2. Tweetmeme – You readers can easily share your post with their Twitter follower by twittering or retwittering with a click of the button. It provides a live count of how many times your post or page has been retweeted throughout Twitter.
  3. Sexybookmarks – SexyBookmarks is an extremely useful tool in getting your readers to submit your post their favorite social bookmarking sites. Though there are other similar WordPress plugins for bookmark, I like Sexybookmarks because the icons are more visible and it has close to 100 social bookmark icons for you to choose.
(Feb 2012: Please note Sexybookmarks is not available for download temporarily from WordPress directory.   Sexybookmarks development team is currently tweaking the plugin before reentering it into the WordPress directory.   As an alternative, you can use Share Buttons by Lockerz / AddToAny  or GetSocial instead.  Both are elegant and easy to use.)

With the help of the above three WordPress plugins, your blog posts can be easily circulated within your social media network and beyond. Blogging on a regular basis is the key to build your credibility in your niche market, generate free traffic and expand your own social media kingdom that will set the foundation for a prosperous online business.

If you think this blog is helpful, please bookmark it by clicking on the sexy bookmark icon below.  You are welcome to share other social media WordPress plugins you use in the comment section.

    Hi Oliver,
    Thank you for this article.
I have the Sexy Bookmarks plugin installed on my own WP blog. Twitter, which I use to promote short links to my posts, is activated there.
There are some numbers visible on the twitter’s bookmarks below my posts on the blog. What do they mean? Is this the count of my tweets which contains the short links or is this the count of retweets done by others from my blog?
    Best regards,
    beautyteller

Hi Beautyteller, Thank you for your comment. I think the number above the twitter button includes both your tweets and retweets by others. They are all counted as your backlinks. Isn’t it great to have your twitter network to build backlinks for your FREE? Of course, you also want to rob their back in return : -)

    Cheers!

    Oliver
