How to Point Your Domain Name to Domain Name Server

If the company that you register your domain name with is different from your web hosting company, you need to point your domain name to the domain name server.  Supposed you register your domain name with Godaddy.com and you use Hostgator, the most popular web hosting company, please follow the steps below:

1. Register your domain name with Goddaddy.com.

2. Register with Hostgator.com and select Baby Plan which is $7.95/per month.  You will receive an email from Hostgator with nameserver information:
e.g. Your Nameservers:
NS1: ns1293.hostgator.com
NS2: ns1294.hostgator.com

3. Log in to Godday.com, click on “View in Domain Manger”.


4. Tick the square box in front of your domain name. Click “Manage Nameserver” icon and select “Set Nameserver”.


5. Enter NS1 and NS2 info (for example, ns1293.hostgator.com, ns1294.hostgator.com ) into Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2. Congratulations!!! You are done!!!
